E-Mail From "Muppets Treasure Island"

Back in May of 1996 I visited the Disney "Muppets Treasure Island" Web site with my two sons ages Two and Four. I found no video clips to download so I filled out their feedback form. I actually had forgotten it until I received a reply in early July.

The original form posting

Subject: MTI: Email Us

Just stopped by with my boys to view a Quicktime clip from "Muppets Treasure Island." Dissapointed that you don't have them up yet. If the movie is in theatres, why don't you have the clips?

Their reply, two months later

At 07:46 PM 7/1/96 PST, you wrote:
Thank you for e-mailing us at Muppet Treasure Island! We hope you've had fun with us on our high seas adventure. Currently, we're all busy working on Muppets Tonight! Look out for us this coming fall on ABC.

Many of our stow-aways mentioned that they did not receive their Muppet autographed pictures. We made the crew photographer walk the plank and now everything is ship shape. Please try again.

And I couldn't resist a reply

Dear Disney/Muppet folks,

Isn't this Internet e-mail great. You can send someone an e-mail in and get back a reply as quickly as two months later! And not only is it timely, the reply is a form letter that has nothing to do with your original e-mail. Technology is great.

One thing that disturbs me in your return e-mail is your reference to making "the crew photographer walk the plank." Does this mean that Disney supports Capital Punishment? With all the recent criticism of Disney by the Baptists I'm surprised that your company would take such a controversial stand. Or perhaps I am reading this wrong. Perhaps "walk the plank" is a metaphorical reference to the person losing their job as opposed to losing their life. Either way, I really don't think it was such a serious offense.

My family did see "Muppet Treasure Island" in the theatre and enjoyed it immensely. My two boys are looking forward to getting the videocassette and watching it over and over again. The oxide on the "Lion King" video has just about worn off the tape. I also have heard you all have a new movie out this summer. Something about Notre Dame. Looking forward to hearing more about that, I love those "Fightin' Irish."

Does the Notre Dame movie have a Web site? Would love to check it out.

The day after I sent the above e-mail I received another e-mail from the Muppets folks with a UUENCODED picture file. I think it's the "Muppet autographed picture" they mentioned in their note. The picture I never asked for in the first place.
